Human Outreach Project

Human Outreach Project (HOP) is a 501 c3 non-profit charitable organization conceived out of the idea that climbers and trekkers could – and should - give back to communities surrounding expedition sites. The communities HOP strives to reach include remote areas in Africa, Asia, and South America. Climbers taking part in guided expeditions with World Wide Trekking (WWT) access these regions as part of their trip. The durable partnerships established with communities have as their defining characteristics, the needs being identified by the local people, a long-term commitment, and a collaborative effort to contribute to sustainable solutions.

In its early years HOP focused on the provision of basic medical, dental, and education supplies to impoverished communities – in particular orphans - in Nepal and Tanzania. Working with local community leaders, HOP has evolved into an organization with a special commitment to the health, educational, and developmental needs of children living in orphanages adjacent to expedition sites. Message from Sue Goldie, Chair of the Board, and Dean Cardinale, President of Human Outreach Project: Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti. Sue's colleagues at Partners in Health (PIH) are very involved in both organizing efforts from Boston as well as responding with urgent relief efforts in the field. PIH has four operational hospitals in Haiti and, as always, is critically involved in providing immediate help on the ground. If you wish to help, the most immediate need is monetary donations (Donations to PIH may be made here.)
